“Join us in creating a new America.”
The so called “Captains” of Industry care nothing for the plight of the common man, of the factory workers, and of the laborers. The tycoons offer no support or security to the men that spend eighteen hours each day, everyday, breaking their backs and spirit for mere pennies. They call on the might of the military to oppress those who seek to better themselves and their conditions. The corporate men will fire the destitute laborers on a whim, for nothing more than speaking of a Union for the workers. In the workplaces themselves, the conditions are equally abhorred. As Upton Sinclair has said, “rats, bread, and meat would go into the hoppers together.” It is not only the poor workers who are in danger of the corporate thieves, but the consumers, the middle class, who will soon suffer under the yoke of the tycoons.
The Unions of the people must be protected if we are to ever cast of this injustice. We must urge the government to use the force of its arms to protect the people, not to cast them down to the lowest rungs of the social ladder. The Robber Barons must be brought to justice for the theft of life, of liberty, and of freedom from the people. Break their holds over prosperity and over industry for the good of the common man, and for the good of America.
Some may argue for Social Darwinism, supporting the tycoons for their use of underhanded and roguish tactics to capture the entirety of their industry. These people do not realize that without the worker, those monopolies will fall. They will soon kill all who could work and buy, then there would be no more. We need the Unions to give safety for all, whether it be at the store or in the assembly line. Without the Unions, there is no one to protect the workers, to protect the consumers, to protect you.
We must call to the government. Call to the mayors, the governors, the President himself. Tell them of your grievances. Tell them of how you have seen countless be sent away from the assembly lines with fewer limbs and less blood than they had upon starting. We must open the Unions to all who suffer under the robber barons. If we limit the membership to only those currently employed, the Unions will have no weight to their actions and will be easily swept aside by the might of industry. We are all united in this cause. We all have something at stake. Join us in forging new laws and protections in this fire of injustice; join us in creating a new America.
